The Guillotine with Ken Heizeman

THE GUILLOTINE

The original "Gym in a Doorway", or simply "The Tower". Whatever you'd like to call it, it's a unique floor to ceiling apparatus which offers a multitude of ways to build strength and flexibility. Ken Heizman will give a tour of its uses and benefits and show us how it can uniquely challenge the body and address imbalances in ways that cannot be obtained on other pieces of equipment. With all the many hooks from top to bottom and the bar that can be attached from above or below (which will get stuck if you're not working evenly), you can fine tune small nuances in your body as well as perform big gymnastic exercises.

Ken has been teaching, studying and continually learning Pilates in the Los Angeles area since 2005. He has studied extensively with first generation teacher Jay Grimes, taking weekly lessons for 11 years, and completing the training programs “The Work”, and “Teaching the Work” at Vintage Pilates. In 2019 he had the opportunity to further his education in Brazil with an additional certification from Romana Kryzanowska’s protégé, and teacher of teachers, Inelia Garcia at the world-renowned Pilates Studio Brasil. There he learned even more comprehensively how to work with all levels of students and how to deal with issues in the body. Ken believes wholeheartedly that all Pilates instructors need to continually further their education and practice in order to give their clients the best possible Pilates experience. Ken owns and runs Original Method Pilates, a beautiful fully equipped Gratz studio just north of Los Angeles at the foot of the Santa Monica Mountains.
